Okay, so I had just finished a card for the Around the World Stampin’ Up! color challenge. Then I looked at the PPA Sketch Challenge, and whaddayaknow, my card matches the sketch! Flipped upside down, but still. What are the odds? So I’m combining the two challenges.
Here are the colors for the Around the World Stampin’ Up! Challenge #29:

And here’s my card:

When I started thinking about the color challenge, I first chose paper. I immediately knew I wanted to use the Real Red with polka dots with the solid Hello Honey & Crumb Cake card stocks. Then I went to my stamps. I wanted to use something I hadn’t used yet. The first stamp set I came across that met that criteria was the Bundled Baby stamp set. I thought, sure, I can do something with this in these colors.
The layout is just simple layering, with Stampin’ Dimensionals under the top two accent pieces. The sentiment is heat embossed in White on Crumb Cake card stock. The Hello Honey card stock was run through the Big Shot with the Delicate Designs embossing folder.
For the baby in the basket, I stamped the image twice with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink – once on Crumb Cake and once on Whisper White. I colored the shading on the Crumb Cake basket and cut out the entire image. Then I colored the baby and bedding on the Whisper White and cut out just that bit, which I then adhered on top of the baby on the Crumb Cake piece.
The matching crumb cake envelope is made special with a liner in the Real Red polka dot.

The Paper Players challenge this week is for a “Clean and Simple Thank You.” Here’s the sketch:

And here’s my card:

Background – Clean and simple is hard for me to do. I always want to add more – more layers, more ribbon, more doodahs. So this really was a challenge. I really like this design from the Santa & Co. DSP. The stars are tiny and sweet, but the colors make it more masculine, so it’s great for anyone, from a baby girl to an elderly man. I deliberately cut the paper so several of the little white stars would show – my simple way of adding more. I think it makes the perfect background for the bold Thank You banner.
Banner – I used the Little Letters Thinlits Die set to cut the letters out of Whisper White card stock. Then I put a piece of Hello Honey card stock underneath to show through. I could have cut the letters from Hello Honey and adhered them on top of the Whisper White, but this way seemed less labor intensive. I just lined up the letters using the Magnetic Platform and ran it through the Big Shot. I think if I had adhered the letters individually it would have been harder to get them nice and straight – not that they’re perfect now.
The Thank You banner is adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Don’t you just love those things? They make everything look better.

I’ve only ever done one blog challenge before, and that was on my other blog. So I’m christening my new blog with this week’s sketch challenge from The Paper Craft Crew. Click on the sketch to see the challenge on their blog.

And here’s my card.
I just love Blackberry Bliss, so I looked for a DSP that used it. The three patterned papers are from the Moonlight DSP Stack and they contain the colors Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey, Basic Gray, and Whisper White, so those are the four colors I used on the card. The card base, candle holder, and Striped Scallop die cut are all Blackberry Bliss card stock. The candles and sentiment are stamped on Whisper White card stock with Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey and Basic Gray ink pads. The candle and sentiment stamps are from the Cycle Celebration stamp set. The sentiment is matted on a piece of Hello Honey card stock. There’s a piece of Whisper White card stock attached inside the card for writing a note (maybe with the Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Write Marker?) I colored a Very Vintage Designer Button with a Smoky Slate Blendabilities Marker, and tied it with a piece of White Baker’s Twine. I cut the candle holder with one of the Apothecary Accents Framelits. I fussy cut the candles with Paper Snips – which are amazing little scissors.
I’d just like to say how much I admire – and envy – people who are really good at fussy cutting. I think my eyes are getting too old or something. I just can’t seem to do it as well as I once could. But that doesn’t stop me from having fun trying!
