Today’s card is for the Pals Paper Arts Challenge PPA307. It’s a color challenge designed by Brian King of stampwithbrian.com.

Since it’s the 4th of July, I decided to used the Real Red and Night of Navy more than the Pool Party, although Pool Party is certainly an appropriate color, since many people will be having parties around their pools this holiday. So I guess you could think of my card as a flag stretched out and sunning itself in the cool water.

Here’s how I did it:
The card base is Pool Party card stock. To make the flag I started with a piece of Whisper White card stock. I cut a piece of Night of Navy Designer Series Paper with 50 dots on it. Yes, I counted! I glued that to the upper left corner of the white piece.
I cut seven 3/8″ strips of Real Red card stock and glued them to the white piece as shown. I trimmed the red strips along the edge of the white piece. Voila, a flag!
I stamped “happy birthday” from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set in Pool Party onto one of the white stripes. Actually, I messed this part up and stamped it really crooked, I mean ugly crooked, and I’m much too lazy to redo the whole thing. No problem! I cut a Whisper White strip of card stock, used my trusty Stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp it straight, and glued the strip in place.
Right under that I stamped the letters USA from the Brushwork Alphabet stamp set in Versamark ink onto the Real Red strip. Then I heat embossed it in white.
Lastly I picked some white stars out of the Metallics Sequin Assortment and glued them over some of the white dots in the field of blue.

Be sure to check out the Cupcake Challenge on my Stamp Candy Facebook page! Make something with a cupcake on it and post a photo on my Facebook page by July 6 to be entered into a drawing to win the Perfectly Wrapped stamp set! I will randomly draw the name and announce the winner on July 7. And while you’re there, please “Like” my page. Thank you!

It’s time for another CYCI Color Challenge:

Here’s my red, white, and blue project:

First I folded a piece of Night of Navy card stock in half. Then I cut it with the largest die from the Stars Framelits, making sure part of the fold was inside the star. I cut a Night of Navy star the same size and glued it to the front of the card.
I used the second largest star die to cut a Real Red star and a Whisper White star.
I attached the Real Red star to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
I stamped on the Whisper White star with the Confetti Celebration stamp set (Real Red sentiment and Night of Navy stars) then glued it to the inside of the card.

Confetti Celebration
I stamped the YAY star image from the Confetti Celebration stamp set in Versamark ink onto Whisper White card stock, then embossed it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I used the third largest star die to cut it, centering the gold image. I then attached it to the Real Red Star with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

It’s color challenge time at canyoucaseit.com! I was a little concerned when I saw this week’s colors. Even though they’re opposites on the color wheel, therefore complimentary colors, I’ve always had an aversion to purple and yellow together. I just wasn’t sure where to go with this.

When this happens, I pull a piece of card stock in each color and just ponder them. If I don’t feel inspired, then I start looking at stamps and tools for inspiration. That’s how this card came together.

I pulled out the new Swirly Scribbles Thinlits Dies and knew I had to play with them immediately. I cut So Saffron card stock three times with the long wavy die, then glued them onto a piece of Wisteria Wonder card stock. I glued that onto the Basic Black card base.
So I had my base, but what about doodahs? A sentiment? I looked at my dies again and saw the Hello You Thinlits, which I love. I cut “thanks” from Basic Black card stock. I felt it needed a lighter touch, so I cut another “thanks” from Whisper White card stock. Now I had “thanks thanks.” Hmmm, it still needed something.
I pulled out the One Big Meaning stamp set and inked up the word “kindly” in Black Memento ink, then stamped it onto Whisper White card stock. The Extra Large Oval Punch fit it perfectly. After gluing the two die cut words, I attached the oval with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
I wanted to use Candy Dots because 1) I love them and 2) they are retiring at the end of May. So one in Wisteria Wonder dots the “i” and three in So Saffron fill in the gap at the top of the card.
I made it through a purple and yellow project. Woohoo!

Welcome to another color challenge from CYCI! Here are this week’s colors…

…and here are my projects.

I just got back from Stampin’ Up’s OnStage Live event in Salt Lake City, where I was able to order some goodies from the upcoming 2016-2017 Annual Catalog. As a fortunate happenstance, one of the Designer Series Paper sets I got has Basic Black, Very Vanilla, and a brand new In-Color called Peekaboo Peach – exactly the colors I needed for today’s challenge!
I used two sheets of the Playful Palette DSP Stack, both the same pattern but in different colors. I lined up the patterns, then cropped them both to 4″ x 5-1/4″. Then, holding them together, I used the Medium Star Punch to cut out three stars. I lined up the Peekaboo Peach stars in the holes on the Basic Black DSP, and the Basic Black stars in the holes on the Peekaboo Peach DSP. This gives you two cards for the effort of one!
I glued the Basic Black DSP onto a Peekaboo Peach card base, and the Peekaboo Peach DSP onto a Basic Black card base, then glued the stars in place on both cards.
I stamped the YAY! star image from the new Confetti Celebration stamp set in both Basic Black and Peekaboo Peach ink onto Very Vanilla card stock, then cut them with the same punch.
I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set in the same two colors onto Very Vanilla card stock, then cut them with the Washi Label Punch.
I attached the stamped pieces to the card fronts with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Here are the current products I used:

This weekend I’m in Salt Lake City, Utah, for Stampin’ Up’s semiannual OnStage event. It’s what most people would probably call a “convention.” I’ve had an absolute ball so far. I’ve made some new friends, caught up with some old ones, learned a lot, and…drum roll, please…received a copy of the new 2016-2017 Annual Catalog! I’ve even gotten to play with some of the brand new products. It’s good to be a demonstrator! Click on “Be a Candy Heart” at the top of this page to learn how you can get your own discounts and perks.
I was involved in two organized swaps this weekend. Today I’m sharing one of my swap projects with you.
I decided to design something very simple, yet striking. I let the colors do all the work, instead of adding lots of doodahs.
The card base is Tempting Turquoise card stock. The polka dot strip is Daffodil Delight and is from the Brights 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper Stack.
I stamped the sentiment from the Happy Happenings stamp set in Tempting Turquoise ink onto Whisper White card stock. That is matted with a piece of Melon Mambo card stock, and that’s matted with another piece of Whisper White.
Three Melon Mambo Candy Dots balance the overall layout.

This card design is so simple, and you can replicate it in countless other color palettes. Do you recognize the color palette I used? It’s the same one used for the top of my blog page. I think it’s a very happy color combo.

Apr 10, 2016 | Cards, Challenges, Color Palette, CYCI |

It’s Sunday, and you know what that means: a new CYCI challenge! Here is this week’s color challenge:

I’m in the mood to make Springtime cards. At first I wasn’t crazy about the black in this challenge and I was trying to design a card that used very little of it. But then I embraced it. Bees are yellow and black. Beetles are black. And what about Black-Eyed Susans? What could be more Springy that those? So here’s what I came up with.

I used Basic Black, Daffodil Delight, and Real Red card stock for the card and layers. I used a Daffodil Delight floral patterned paper from the Brights Designer Series Paper Stack for the flowers and sentiment.
I punched the flowers with the Petite Petals Punch, and the flower centers with the 1/4″ Circle Punch. I added a Rhinestone Basic Jewel to the center of each flower.
The sentiment is cut with the Hello You Thinlits Dies. Everything is glued in place.
You might think so much black would make a very dark card, but the yellow/white floral pattern and the Rhinestones really bring it this card to life.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
