Welcome to another color challenge from CYCI! Here are this week’s colors…

…and here are my projects.

I just got back from Stampin’ Up’s OnStage Live event in Salt Lake City, where I was able to order some goodies from the upcoming 2016-2017 Annual Catalog. As a fortunate happenstance, one of the Designer Series Paper sets I got has Basic Black, Very Vanilla, and a brand new In-Color called Peekaboo Peach – exactly the colors I needed for today’s challenge!
I used two sheets of the Playful Palette DSP Stack, both the same pattern but in different colors. I lined up the patterns, then cropped them both to 4″ x 5-1/4″. Then, holding them together, I used the Medium Star Punch to cut out three stars. I lined up the Peekaboo Peach stars in the holes on the Basic Black DSP, and the Basic Black stars in the holes on the Peekaboo Peach DSP. This gives you two cards for the effort of one!
I glued the Basic Black DSP onto a Peekaboo Peach card base, and the Peekaboo Peach DSP onto a Basic Black card base, then glued the stars in place on both cards.
I stamped the YAY! star image from the new Confetti Celebration stamp set in both Basic Black and Peekaboo Peach ink onto Very Vanilla card stock, then cut them with the same punch.
I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set in the same two colors onto Very Vanilla card stock, then cut them with the Washi Label Punch.
I attached the stamped pieces to the card fronts with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

It’s time for another CYCI sketch challenge! As soon as I saw this sketch, the little circles reminded me of bubbles, and I knew I had to do fish. I pulled out my trusty By the Tide stamp set which has a great fish image.

I stamped two fish in Cucumber Crush and one in Pacific Point onto the Pool Party card front. I made sure the ink was good and dry to help prevent bleeding, then colored in the fish with Stampin’ Write Markers in Daffodil Delight, Blushing Bride, Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder, and Pumpkin Pie.
The bubbles are Rhinestone Basic Jewels. I used all three sizes that come in the pack to create graduated sizes of bubbles. I used my Paper Piercing Tool to apply the rhinestones. It’s easy to use the sharp point to get up under the jewel and transfer it exactly where you want it.

The sentiment from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set is stamped in Pacific Point ink. This has to be one of the best stamp sets to have in your arsenal. It has 24 different sentiments for a wide array of occasions.

The card front is glued onto a piece of Pacific point card stock, and that’s glued onto the Cucumber Crush card base.

Apr 10, 2016 | Cards, Challenges, Color Palette, CYCI |

It’s Sunday, and you know what that means: a new CYCI challenge! Here is this week’s color challenge:

I’m in the mood to make Springtime cards. At first I wasn’t crazy about the black in this challenge and I was trying to design a card that used very little of it. But then I embraced it. Bees are yellow and black. Beetles are black. And what about Black-Eyed Susans? What could be more Springy that those? So here’s what I came up with.

I used Basic Black, Daffodil Delight, and Real Red card stock for the card and layers. I used a Daffodil Delight floral patterned paper from the Brights Designer Series Paper Stack for the flowers and sentiment.
I punched the flowers with the Petite Petals Punch, and the flower centers with the 1/4″ Circle Punch. I added a Rhinestone Basic Jewel to the center of each flower.
The sentiment is cut with the Hello You Thinlits Dies. Everything is glued in place.
You might think so much black would make a very dark card, but the yellow/white floral pattern and the Rhinestones really bring it this card to life.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Here is this week’s Sketch Challenge from CYCI…

…and here’s my card, photographed on of a piece of Cucumber Crush card stock.

I used the March 2016 Paper Pumpkin kit to create this card. The kit makes 8 gift cards and 8 gift card envelopes.

I used one of the speckled card bases from the kit, and glued a piece of Bermuda Bay card stock on the front. I used the 1-3/8″ Circle Punch to cut out circles from the various pieces in the kit, as well as from the Brights Designer Series Paper Stack. I glued the circles along the slant of the Bermuda Bay card stock piece.
I stamped the sentiment from the Petite Pairs stamp set in Cucumber Crush ink onto a piece of Whisper White CS, then cut it with the Large Oval Punch. I cut a piece of Bermuda Bay CS with the Scalloped Oval Punch to mat the sentiment. I glued it all to the card front.
I stuck a White Perfect Accent in the top left corner to add balance to the overall layout.

Mar 27, 2016 | Cards, Challenges, Color Palette, CYCI, Occasions |

This week CYCI has a color challenge:

Here’s my card:

As soon as I saw this color palette, I knew I had to make a masculine birthday card. It came together really fast. The card base is Night of Navy card stock. The next layer up is Kraft Corrugated Paper – on the back I attached lots of Smoky Slate and Basic Gray pieces I cut with the Banner Punch. All the pieces are the same size, but I staggered them on the back to make them look longer or shorter.
I stamped the sentiment from the Perfect pairings stamp set in Night of Navy on Smoky Slate CS. I notched the end with the Banner Triple Punch.
I added some Candy Dots in Night of Navy, Basic Gray, and Smoky Slate. Done!

Happy Easter!

I hope your baskets are full of goodies today. I just had to share this photo that I found on Pinterest of eggs decorated as gumball machines. They’re very similar to my logo! Malissa & Machelle from A Joyful Riot did such a great job. Click here to see how they made them.

Mar 20, 2016 | Cards, Challenges, CYCI, Sketches, Wedding |

It’s time for another sketch challenge from canyoucaseit.com! Here is this week’s sketch…

…and here is my card.

My interpretation of the sketch is pretty literal this time. But I think the watercolored oval changes things up a bit. It adds texture and interest without a particular image that might take away from the sentiment.
The card base is Elegant Eggplant card stock, with a Whisper White CS layer on top of that, and a layer of Have A Cuppa Designer Series Paper (in Wisteria Wonder and Whisper White) on top of that.
The oval is Watercolor Paper cut with the Ovals Collection Framelits Dies. I used an Aqua Painter to watercolor all but the outer rim in Elegant Eggplant. I adhered 5 different pieces of Whisper White ribbon to the back and trimmed them with my Craft Scissors – the best ribbon scissors ever! I then glued it onto the card front.
I stamped the sentiment from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set in Elegant Eggplant on a strip of Whisper White CS and attached that with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Lastly I added some Elegant Eggplant Candy Dots.
