I’m Back with a Wet Birthday!

I’m back! I didn’t intend to take the whole month of June off from blogging, but sometimes life just works out that way. I have now accumulated a bunch of projects that I’m ready to blog about. Here’s the first:

I was in a watercoloring mood, so I got out my Watercolor Paper and started playing. I had no idea what I would end up with, but that’s sometimes the most fun process, just to play until you get something interesting. What do you think?

Here’s how I did it:

I cut the Watercolor Paper to 4″ x 5-1/4″. I used a spritzer filled with water to get the paper very wet. Then I used Ink Refills in the 5 new In Colors to drip onto the wet paper. I spritzed it some more to make the ink run more. At this point there were puddles on the paper that I was afraid would take too long to dry (too long = longer than I wanted to wait.) I took out my trusty Heat Tool and dried up those puddles in a jiffy.

I used Fast Fuse to adhere the Watercolor Paper to a Peekaboo Peach card base.

I stamped the sentiment and light strands from the Confetti Celebration stamp set in Basic Black onto a strip of Flirty Flamingo card stock. I filled in the lights with a Chalk Marker, going back over them a second time to make the white stronger. I used Fast Fuse to adhere the strip to the card front, and I was done!

Not only was this card easy to make, it was fun dripping the inks and making them run. I didn’t even get very much ink on me – a miracle in itself, as I’m a very messy crafter.

I hope you’ll try this technique. Be sure to let me know how it works for you!

Peekaboo! It’s InKing Royalty’s Blog Hop!

Peekaboo Peach

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s June Blog Hop!  Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Annual Catalog introduced us to five new In Colors:  Dapper Denim, Emerald Envy, Flirty Flamingo, Peekaboo Peach and Sweet Sugarplum.  What a beautiful collection of versatile colors!  Today’s Blog Hop is filled with inspiring projects that feature each artist’s favorite new In Color.  After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

How did I choose my favorite In Color for this post? I punched out a piece of card stock in each color, put them in a bowl, swirled them around, and pulled one out. I mean really, how else could I choose just one of these amazing colors?

For the background I used a stamping method that has been around for many years, and was recently demonstrated at a Stampin’ Up! event by fellow demonstrator Brandy Cox.

I used the square piece from the inside of the easel stamp from the Painter’s Palette stamp set. This is more easily done with the clear mount set, since the wood mount stamps have permanent adhesive on the back, and there isn’t a wood block included for this extra square piece.

I stamped the square in Peekaboo Peach onto Whisper White card stock. I stamped the paper several times between re-inking to get the different shades. I also overlapped the squares to create darker areas. It reminds me of fabric from the 1970s.

I inked up the new Pineapple stamp in Emerald Envy and Early Espresso, then stamped directly on top of the stamped background. These two colors are deep enough to (mostly) cover the design under them.

Okay, maybe I cheated a little bit by sneaking in another of the new colors, but doesn’t it look awesome?

I cut the sentiment with the Hello You Thinlits from Whisper White card stock, then I covered it with Clear Wink of Stella and glued it to the card front. The card base is Thick Whisper White card stock.

I’m proud to say, “No Stampin’ Dimensionals were harmed in the making of this card.” Sometimes I force myself not to use them, just to be different. But this card really only needed Multipurpose Liquid Glue – my favorite paper crafting glue ever!

I hope you’ll hop along to the next stop on the blog hop, Robin Myren at Songbird Designs by Robin. There’s a lot of inspiration to be found in this group – and you don’t want to miss it!

It’s time for another CYCI Color Challenge:

CYCI 123 due 6-3, live 6-5

Here’s my red, white, and blue project:

CYCI star card k

First I folded a piece of Night of Navy card stock in half. Then I cut it with the largest die from the Stars Framelits, making sure part of the fold was inside the star. I cut a Night of Navy star the same size and glued it to the front of the card.

I used the second largest star die to cut a Real Red star and a Whisper White star.

I attached the Real Red star to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I stamped on the Whisper White star with the Confetti Celebration stamp set (Real Red sentiment and Night of Navy stars) then glued it to the inside of the card.

I stamped the YAY star image from the Confetti Celebration stamp set in Versamark ink onto Whisper White card stock, then embossed it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I used the third largest star die to cut it, centering the gold image. I then attached it to the Real Red Star with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Hello, CYCI 122

CYCI hello card b

It’s time for another sketch challenge at canyoucaseit.com:

CYCI 122

Here’s what I made:

CYCI hello card a

The card base is Crushed Curry card stock and the card front is a piece of the brand new Pop of Pink Designer Series Paper. This paper is black and white on one side, with Melon Mambo on the other side.

I used the Banners Framelits to cut the Watermelon Wonder card stock banner.

I used the Greetings Thinlits to cut the sentiment and the new Swirly Scribbles Thinlits to cut the wreath, both from Cucumber Crush card stock.

I used the Pansy Punch to cut two Blushing Bride flowers, and the Petite Petals Punch to cut two Cherry Cobbler flowers. I used my Piecing Mat the the round bottom of an Aqua Painter to curve the flowers, then stacked them up with glue. I used the 1/4″ Circle Punch to cut the flower’s center from Crushed Curry card stock.

Thanks Kindly, CYCI 121

CYCI thanks kindly card b

It’s color challenge time at canyoucaseit.com! I was a little concerned when I saw this week’s colors. Even though they’re opposites on the color wheel, therefore complimentary colors, I’ve always had an aversion to purple and yellow together. I just wasn’t sure where to go with this.

CYCI 121

When this happens, I pull a piece of card stock in each color and just ponder them. If I don’t feel inspired, then I start looking at stamps and tools for inspiration. That’s how this card came together.

CYCI thanks kindly card a

I pulled out the new Swirly Scribbles Thinlits Dies and knew I had to play with them immediately. I cut So Saffron card stock three times with the long wavy die, then glued them onto a piece of Wisteria Wonder card stock. I glued that onto the Basic Black card base.

So I had my base, but what about doodahs? A sentiment? I looked at my dies again and saw the Hello You Thinlits, which I love. I cut “thanks” from Basic Black card stock. I felt it needed a lighter touch, so I cut another “thanks” from Whisper White card stock. Now I had “thanks thanks.” Hmmm, it still needed something.

I pulled out the One Big Meaning stamp set and inked up the word “kindly” in Black Memento ink, then stamped it onto Whisper White card stock. The Extra Large Oval Punch fit it perfectly. After gluing the two die cut words, I attached the oval with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I wanted to use Candy Dots because 1) I love them and 2) they are retiring at the end of May. So one in Wisteria Wonder dots the “i” and three in So Saffron fill in the gap at the top of the card.

I made it through a purple and yellow project. Woohoo!

At the May Candy Hearts gathering, one of the Make & Takes was one card in each of the five new In-Colors. I only made one example card, so I’m sharing the cards made by my team member, Debbie Catlett, from Chattanooga, TN.

The card bases are Thick Whisper White card stock. The sentiments are from the Rose Wonder stamp set and are stamped in Black Memento ink.

I’m sorry I didn’t get anything posted yesterday. We flew all Saturday night, and I cannot sleep on a plane. We got to the hotel in time for Sunday lunch. I had the Sunday roast lamb with all the trimmings – When it came to the table it looked like enough food for several people, but I was hungry and almost finished it off. Well, then I was so full, and tired, that I had to have a nap.

At dinner I ordered something much lighter, but they got my order wrong, yada yada yada, so I ended up with another Sunday roast meal (pork this time.) I was so full and tired after that, I couldn’t even stay awake to post. Since we’re 5 hours ahead here, I probably could have worked on it the next morning, but I ended up sleeping until 4:30 in the afternoon! That’s what long red-eye flights do to me.

I do have Internet access in the hotel room, but I’m having trouble getting some photos to upload. For example, I wanted to share 5 photos with you today, but only 4 of them would upload. Sorry you didn’t get to see the Dapper Denim card.
