Sep 2, 2015 | Cards, Challenges, Christmas, Holiday, New Products |

Here is this week’s Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge from the Paper Players. I chose the center vertical column: Circle, Embossing, Mint Macaron.

I had already made this card earlier in the week but hadn’t scheduled it to post yet. As luck would have it, it just happens to fit the challenge perfectly. Serendipity!
The new Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (TIEF) is so beautiful alone, I didn’t want a lot of other stuff on the card. So I kept it very clean and simple.
I was also looking for colors other than the usual Christmas colors. That’s why I chose Blushing Bride and Mint Macaron. I think they had a sort of frosty feel to them.
The sentiment is from the Among the Branches photopolymer stamp set. I stamped it in Blushing Bride on Whisper White and cut it with the 2″ Circle Punch. I punched a piece of Whisper White with the 2-1/2″ Circle Punch to mat it.
A piece of Blushing Bride Cotton Ribbon finishes the card.

I used the rule of thirds on this card to position the ribbon and sentiment. See my previous post about that here.
Oh, and did I mention that the Among the Branches stamp set and the Woodland TIEF are available as a bundle at 15% off? Click on the image below to get yours now!

Aug 30, 2015 | Cards, Challenges, Christmas, Holiday, New Products |

I am thrilled to announce that, as of next week, I will be a member of the Can You Case It? Design Team! I am honored to have been selected to be a part of such a talented group.
For this week, I am a challenge participant. Here is this week’s CYCI sketch challenge:

And here is my card:

I used the Sparkly Seasons photopolymer stamp set and Seasonal Frame Thinlits Dies, which will be available individually and as a Bundle on September 1. (Bundle = save 15%!)
The card base is Thick Whisper White card stock. Each of the three panels is matted with Early Espresso card stock. The Real Red stripe is from the Brights DSP stack. The other two panels are Real Red & Crumb Cake card stock.
I stamped the snow globe base in Early Espresso on the Crumb Cake panel. Then I used my Paper Snips to cut a slit in the panel along the top edge of the base. I opened the snips all the way and used the super sharp tip of one of the blades like a craft knife. It cut through the card stock like buttah!
I stamped the globe and contents on Whisper White card stock, colored it with Stampin’ Write Markers, and cut it with the circle die from the set. I stamped snow on the Window Sheet with White Staz-on ink and cut it with the same die. I used Tear & Tape to adhere them together at the bottom. Then I slipped that bottom part into the slit of the Crumb Cake panel and adhered it.
The only thing left to do was die cut the word SNOW from Whisper White card stock. The new Precision Base Plate for the Big Shot makes cutting intricate things like this so easy! Be sure to put it on your wish list for the new catalog when it goes live on September 1.
My sentiment placement is a bit different from the sketch. It didn’t show up well at the bottom right, and I didn’t like it in the other colors I tried, so I opted to make the center panel a bit larger and put the sentiment there. The center panel is attached with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Here’s what I used. The links to the new products will go live on September 1. Links to current products are live now. Click on the images to purchase your own!

Aug 21, 2015 | Cards, Challenges, Christmas, Holiday, New Products, Sketches |

This week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge is a sketch by Kerry Willard Bray.
Here’s the sketch…

…and here’s my card.

The Festive Fireplace stamp set and Festive Fireside Framelits Dies are available in a bundle in the new Holiday catalog. I’ve used them here along with another new product: the Winter Wonderland Designer Vellum Stack – 36 sheets of 6″ x 6″ vellum in 12 different designs. I thought this design looked like wallpaper.
I should mention that, except for the 5″ x 7″ card base and the vellum, all the paper I used on this card came from my scraps. I save all my paper scraps, and have a small drawer for each color. I’ve been ribbed for keeping scraps as small as I do, but that skinny piece of Whisper White certainly came in handy for the baseboard, and it prevented having to cut into a new piece.
I used Stampin’ Write Markers to color the flames (Pumpkin Pie,) the wreath berries (Real Red,) and the stockings (1 – Soft Sky, Mint Macaron, and Lost Lagoon; 2 – Crumb Cake and Soft Suede; 3 – So Saffron, Real Red, and Garden Green.)

Jul 19, 2015 | Cards, Challenges, Sketches |

This week’s Pals Paper Arts Challenge is a sketch by the lovely and talented Kerry Willard Bray.

I had been looking at the Hot Diggity Dog stamp set and just fell in love with the face I used on today’s card. I’m not sure which specific dog breed it’s supposed to represent, if any. Pug, maybe? I just think it’s cute. So when I saw this week’s sketch, I immediately knew I wanted to put this little face in the center of the circle.

The colors in the Sweet Li’l Things DSP seemed perfect for this card. This little pooch is a sweet little thing, right?
The sentiment is from the same stamp set. It’s actually one stamp, but I used my Tip Top Taupe Stampin’ Write Marker to ink one line at a time so I could stamp them separately. Here’s how to do that:
1) Color the part of the stamp that you want with the marker.
2) Stamp the image. (The ink can dry quickly, so you may want to “huff” on it first – blow warm, moist breath on it to reactivate the ink.)
3) Clean the stamp. Stamp off on clean scrap paper to make sure it is dry and leaves no mark.
4) Color the other part of the stamp and repeat.

Jul 2, 2015 | Cards, Challenges, Color Palette, New Products |

This week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge is to use these three colors…

…and here’s my card.

I love cutting and piecing paper, and I have as far back as I can remember. I had so much fun creating the trellis, vine, and grass, I almost forgot to include a stamped image.
The card base is the new Thick Whisper White card stock. The trellis and sign are cut from the regular Whisper White card stock. The sign image, from the new Stake Your Claim stamp set, is stamped in Night of Navy, and it’s cut with the Handpicked Framelits Dies. I used my Stampin’ Trimmer to cut 1/8″ strips for the trellis. I cut the two cross pieces with the Ovals Collection Framelits Dies.
The card front is Watermelon Wonder card stock that I ran through my Big Shot with the Brick Wall TIEF.
I cut the Cucumber Crush vines with the Bird Builder Punch, and the neatly mown grass is a 1/2″ strip of card stock that I snip-snip-snipped with my Paper Snips.
I cut the Night of Navy flowers with the Petite Petals Punch. The flower centers are the new White Perfect Accents. Some flowers are glued on, and some are attached with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
As an afterthought, I used a Sponge Dauber (item #133773) to add a little Tip Tip Taupe to the edges of the bricks, to the trellis, and to the sign.

Here’s what I used. Click on the images to purchase from my online store.

Jun 26, 2015 | Cards, Challenges, New Products |

This week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge is by the very talented Pixel Maven herself, Nicole Watt.

I came up with so many ideas for this sketch, but I’m at a craft retreat with only a small subset of my stamping supplies, so my options were more limited than usual. I hope to explore the other ideas later on. But I do like what I was able to come up with today.

My main inspiration for this card came from the flourish in the Everything Eleanor stamp set. I thought it approximated the sketch’s diagonal banner nicely. I stamped the flourish and the sentiment (from the And Many More stamp set) in black Memento ink directly on the DSP. The DSP seemed to absorb the ink so that it wasn’t entirely black. To remedy that, I stamped over the images multiple times to make them darker. How? With my Stamp-a-ma-jig – a tool that every stamper should have!
For the two other shapes, I used two of the flowers in the same stamp set. I stamped them with the same ink on Very Vanilla card stock, then fussy cut them with (you guessed it) my Paper Snips. I embellished the centers with Pearl Basic Jewels, then attached them with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Everything Eleanor stamp set
The images of this elegant stamp set required an equally elegant paper. Enter the Timeless Elegance DSP. It has only three colors: Very Vanilla, Sahara Sand, and Basic Black. Elegant indeed! By the way, the background of the full card photo is another sheet of the same DSP.

Timeless Elegance Designer Series Paper
I hope you’ll try this beautiful paper. At least find someone who already has it so you can look at it in person, because the photo does not do it justice. (That can be said for all the DSP – it’s much more spectacular in person than in photos.)
One more thing: for the proportions to look right, I made a 3-1/2″ x 5″ card instead of the usual 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″. The images seemed to get lost on the larger card.
Here’s what I used:
