It’s a Cupcake Party for PPA256

It’s time for another Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge! Today’s sketch is by Kerry Willard Bray.

I was in the mood to use the Cupcake Party stamp set, which prompted me to turn the sketch upside down. Instead of banners hanging down from the top left, this 6″ x 6″ card has cupcake pedestals rising up from the bottom right. Except for one piece, all the DSP pieces are from the Cherry On Top DSP Stack. The exception (the Watermelon Wonder pedestal at far right) is from the Sweet Li’l Ones DSP.

Even though I changed the banners in the sketch to pedestals, I did include a banner on the card. The  sentiment is stamped on a Whisper White banner along the bottom of the pedestals. To give it the 3D look, I scored it twice on each end 1/8″ apart, and folded to lift the center. I also put Stampin’ Dimensionals under the center to help hold it off the card.

The adorable Cupcake Party stamp set can be purchased alone or in a bundle with the Cupcake Builder Punch. With the bundle, you save 15% on both!

Messy Little Lamb for PPA255

PPA255 little lamb card b

Barnyard Babies is one of my favorite new stamp sets. It’s great for baby cards, like I’ve used it here, but it can also be used for other occasions. The animal images are adorable.

Today’s Pals Paper Arts challenge is to use these three colors:

PPA255 colors

And here’s my card:

PPA255 little lamb card a

While the primary color of this card is whisper White, I did use all three of the specified colors. When I first saw these colors, the only thing I could think of was to dirty up the blue with the browns. That’s when the baby bib came to mind. I think this little fellow must have had some gravy. But at least the bib protected his white shirt underneath!

The Elegant Dots TIEF gave a delicate texture to the “shirt.” Usually the tiny dots would be raised, but I chose to turn the “back” side out so the pattern would be even more subtle. It really reminds me of a baby tee shirt. It also reminds me of “quilted” bathroom tissue, but that’s another card.

The sentiment welcomes the baby. The dirty bib gives the new parents a glimpse of things to come. 😉

Just Because of PPA254

PPA 254 color challenge card b

Today’s card is for the Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge PPA254.  Here’s the color palette:PPA254 color challenge

I didn’t have any Strawberry Slush – it just retired – so I used Melon Mambo instead. Since it’s an alternate color, I tried to use as little of it as possible, making the lion’s share of the card So Saffron and Soft Suede.

The card base is Soft Suede. The front panel is So Saffron with the butterfly image stamped in Soft Suede.

Just a sliver of Melon Mambo card stock peeks out from behind the front panel, and I used a small sentiment from the new You’re So Sweet stamp set with the same color ink.

PPPPA 253

Yes, you read the title correctly, and no, I’m not stammering. Today’s card is a Paper Pumpkin Pals Paper Arts 253 card (say that three times really fast) meaning that I used my Paper Pumpkin kit for this week’s PPA253 Sketch Challenge.

Here is this week’s sketch by Nicole Watt.

PPA253 sketch challenge

This month’s Paper Pumpkin kit makes gift bags and cards perfect for birthdays and other occasions to celebrate. I cut pieces from one of the cards and put them on a Tangerine Tango card base. The sentiment is stamped in Island Indigo on Whisper White, then matted on Tangerine Tango. I rounded the corners with the Project Life Corner Punch. Three Daffodil Delight Candy Dots finish it off.

I like the jagged bottom of the sketch, but I was afraid that would be too much with the diagonal stripes of the card, so I opted to cut a curve. I used a pair of Craft Scissors for this – it was easier to keep a smooth line going than with smaller scissors like the Paper Snips. The Craft Scissors are wonderful for cutting ribbon. I have a pair that I use only for that purpose – I keep a ribbon tied around the handle. While I love the Paper Snips and use those most of the time, sometimes I like long scissors for paper as well, so I have a second pair of Craft Scissors I use for that.

The sentiment layer is attached with Stampin’ Dimensionals to add some interest.

I Heart You for PPA 252

PPA 252 card b2

It’s been a while since I’ve done a blog challenge. I’m thrilled to re-enter the blog challenge arena with a Pals Paper Arts challenge. Today’s sketch is by Kerry Willard Bray. I love the symmetry of it.

PPA 252 sketch

I planned to make a horizontally oriented card, like the sketch, with the hearts going across left to right; but when I decided to use the Happy Heart embossing folder, I changed the orientation to vertical so the embossed hearts would be going in the right direction. I thought about stamping a sentiment on a strip of paper and putting that on top of the hearts, more like the sketch. But then I decided I wanted more of the hearts to show. I think there is enough of the pretty organza ribbon showing to get the idea, don’t you?

I like using pink and gray together. It reminds me of fuzzy pink cardigans worn with gray wool skirts. Here I used two grays (Basic Gray embossed card front and Smoky Slate card base) and three pinks (Blushing Bride, Watermelon Wonder, and Melon Mambo hearts) along with black (card layer and ink) and white (ribbon.) Everything is held together with Snail except for the three hearts which are popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The Basic Gray piece of card stock is 1/4″ smaller than the card base. I used a piece of Basic Black card stock just a smidge larger than the Basic Gray piece. I just wanted enough black showing to separate the two grays.

The Back to Basics Alphabet photopolymer stamp set made it easy to put the letters I and YOU exactly where I wanted them.

New Look and Blog Challenge

NEW LOOK

Hello there! Notice anything different? That’s right, there’s a new header at the top of my blog. So long to that old photo taken with my phone, and hello new look!

Huge thanks go to Nicole and Brian Watt of Integrant Services. They have helped me immensely with my web site: Nicole with the design and Brian with the technical stuff, although I think they each do at least some of both. They’re also designing new business cards and labels for me. I highly recommend these folks. Check them out!

I had come up with the idea of a candy machine full of stamps, and I like happy colors, but that’s really all I had. I didn’t know which colors I wanted, or which fonts, or anything else. Nicole took my idea and ran with it. I love the final result! It looks like a candy store in Daffodil Delight, Melon Mambo, and Tempting Turquoise – all three from the Stampin’ Up! Brights family of colors. Pretty happy looking, eh? And what a fantastic job she did on the old timey candy machine full of stamps!

CHALLENGE

In honor of the site’s new look, how about a blog challenge? Create your own project using the three colors below, then post a photo of it on my Facebook page by midnight on Friday, 24 April 2015.
