Pals February 2015 Blog Hop

Welcome to the February Pals Blog Hop. This month we are sharing what we love – our favorite Stampin’ Up! products and our favorite crafting techniques.

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from Peggy Noe at prettypapercards.com. Use the full lineup below to move along from blog to blog so you see all of the new projects.

Choosing a favorite Stampin’ Up! Product or technique is impossible. I love it all! So I decided to go with whatever mood struck me when I sat down to craft. Actually, I was inspired by the colors in this month’s blog hop badge, at the top of all of our posts today.

2015-02-10 pals blog hop card D

This card uses some wonderful tools: Stamp-a-ma-jig, Embossing Buddy, Heat Tool, Stampin’ Scrub, Stampin’ Mist, Grid Paper, and Bone Folder. I consider using the Stamp-a-ma-jig a technique in itself. And who doesn’t love heat embossing? I think we’ve all experienced the excitement of watching the dull powder magically transform into a glossy, raised design. The Stampin’ Scrub and Stampin’ Mist are absolutely essential for any stamping project – the stamps are cleaned thoroughly and conditioned at the same time. I use my bone folder as much as, or maybe even more than, my Paper Snips! And I always create on the Grid Paper – what a fabulous invention!

You’ll see that I have washi tape in the list at the bottom of this post, even though you don’t see it on the card. That’s because I used it more as a tool on this card, to hold the card in place while I worked on it, then removed it.

Check back for more details on how I used these tools.

The next stop is Jane Knudsen at see jane stamp on the Pals Blog Hop! Thanks for visiting and I’ll see you next month.

Sweet Stamping!

Showing Love for the InKing Royalty Blog Hop

InKing Royalty February Blog Hop

Welcome to the February InKing Royalty Blog Hop.  We’re excited to share projects that share inspiration for Valentine’s Day and our love of Stampin’ Up! products.  This hop is all about love.

You may have started the Blog Hop here or may have hopped over from Amy Whelan at Amy’s Inklings.  After you read my post, I  hope you’ll hop over to the next.  If you get off track at any point during the blog hop, there’s a complete list of participants at the end of this post.

At each month’s Stamp Club meeting, I like to give the members a little something, just to show my love and appreciation. For the February meeting, which is today, I decorated water bottles and filled the January Paper Pumpkin bags with Valentine colored M&Ms. Aren’t they adorable?

valentine bottles & bags c

Anyone who subscribes to Paper Pumpkin knows how amazing the kits are. Everything you need to create the project is included, except scissors and adhesive. Actually, sometimes they even include the adhesive! The projects are easy peasy, especially with included pictures and instructions. All the shapes are pre-cut. All I had to do was use the stamps and ink (included) to decorate some of the pieces and attach them to the clear bags (also included.) Such a cute way to give folks a sweet little treat!

The bottles are sooooo easy. Take the original belly band off the bottle and measure it. Cut a new belly band to fit and decorate as desired.

valentine bottles e

This particular bottle takes a 1-3/8″ wide band. I cut Basic Black background paper into 8-1/2″ x 1-3/8″ strips and adhered them with Fast Fuse. I used the Sweetheart Punch and the Modern Label Punch to cut Stacked With Love DSP. The sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes is stamped in Memento black ink and cut with the Word Window punch. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals behind the Modern Label shape. Everything else was adhered with Fast Fuse or Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

Thank you for stopping by today.  I hope you’ll hop along to the next stop on the blog hop, Pam Morris at Tap Tap Stamp.  You certainly won’t want to miss any of these projects.

And as always, Sweet Stamping!

To Infinity and…Pals Blog Hop

pals blog hop badge jan 2015

Welcome to the first Pals Blog Hop of 2015. We hope your new year is off to a great creative start. To celebrate the start of a new Stampin’ Up! year, we are showcasing products from our newest catalog this month – the Occasions catalog. You may also see new Sale-a-bration products too. If you don’t know how to earn free Sale-a-bration products – contact your Stampin’ Up! demonstrator to learn more.

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from Lisa Ann Bernard at Queen B Creations. Use the full lineup below to move along from blog to blog so you see all of the new projects.

Have I mentioned how much I love the new Occasions Catalog? I have? Well, let me say it again. I love this new stuff!!! And the fact that you get something FREE from the Sale-A-Bration catalog for every $50 you spend just makes it that much better!

Today’s card uses several of the new products – see the complete product list at the bottom of this post.  It’s called an Infinity Card because it just goes on and on in an unending cycle as you keep unfolding it.

This is the card front:

( I tried to make the card lie flat to photograph it, but it’s an interactive card that definitely looks better in your hands. If I’d had a hand model available, I would’ve photographed it that way. But with one hand holding the camera, this was all I could do.)

TIP: For the sentiment on the back of the card, I masked off most of a stamp from the Balloon Bash photopolymer stamp set, revealing only HAPPYBIRTHDAY. I cut a piece of scratch paper to fit around the sentiment I wanted, and to cover the rest of the stamp. I inked the stamp, then removed the paper to stamp the image onto the card.

Come back tomorrow for the pattern and directions for this fun Infinity Card!

Creative Blog Hop

I am honored to be nominated to participate in the Creative Blog Hop by Amy Whelan of Amy’s Inklings. She may say she uses simple layouts, but once she’s done with them, they’re spectacular. Her innovative eye helps her find new ways of using stamps. I admire, and covet, her talent.

Part of the Creative Blog Hop is sharing my creative process by answering the following four questions:

1) What are you working on?

2015 occassions and sale-a-bration catalog covers

The new products from the Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogs, of course! I can’t wait for you to see all the new goodies on the 6th!

My Stamp Club meets today, so I’ve had fun creating projects for that. We’ll make a birthday card and two Valentine’s projects, all using the new products.

(If you live in the Atlanta area, or are willing to travel here once a month, and you’re interested in joining the Stamp Club, give me a holler. We’d love to have you!)

Also I’ll be out of country for a week, so I’m trying to get blog posts queued up for while I’m gone. (Please don’t think me rude if I don’t reply to you until after January 13. I don’t think I’ll have Internet access where I’m going.) One of my new goals is to post every day if at all possible.

2) How does your work differ from others in your genre?

I love to work with just one or two colors. Monochromatic cards are my favorite. I’m a very matchy matchy kind of gal. No matter how hard I try to mix up different colors, I’m just never quite happy with the result. But I love it when other people do it. I just don’t think I have that sort of eye. That’s one of the reasons I love Stampin’ Up! so much – everything matches! (The high quality of the products is the other main reason I love SU!)

white butterfly for you card  Christmas Holidays card a

The white butterfly card is one of my favorites that I’ve made in a while.Missing-You-Already-card pink-Sweet-Taffy-bd-card SOC BLOG HOP PINK BLUE BD CARD

I also gravitate toward symmetry. I’m trying to learn how not to center everything, but still have balance in the design.

3) Why do you create what you do?

I think it’s in my blood. My mother could do just about anything crafty or artistic: paint, sew, etc. Anything she tried she could do, and do well. My sister is very creative as well.  I have to create. I began playing with paper when I was a child. It was readily available and inexpensive. All I needed was some paper and crayons or paints and I was happy. I made birthday and Christmas cards for my family. I’ve always enjoyed creating things with paper, and finding other uses for common objects in my projects.

4) How does your creative process work?

Wow, that’s a good question. I’m not exactly sure how my brain works through the creative process. There’s a lot going on in there at any given moment. Sometimes ideas just spill out. Sometimes I have all these ideas in my head and I just have to sit down and make them before I burst.

Other times I can’t think of a single thing. That’s when I draw inspiration from the stamp sets, the DSP, the embellishments, and from other blogs and Pinterest. I may take several ideas and combine them together in my own way. Sometimes inspiration comes from odd places, like the color combination I see someone wearing, a magazine ad, food, anything really.

There’s also a lot of trial and error. The truth is I’m quite clumsy and messy and I make lots of mistakes. Some of them turn out to be happy mistakes; some not so much. I rarely end up doing what I originally planned. But I enjoy the process. I call it play.

Thanks for stopping by today, and Sweet Stamping!

I’m still looking for the next person I will nominate to participate on the Creative Blog Hop. Could it be you? If you have a stampin’ blog and are interested, please let me know. Stay tuned…

Winter Wishes for Pals December Blog Hop

6a00e54f95df92883401b8d0a0bbc1970c-800wi

Welcome to the last Pals Blog Hop of 2014. This month we want to help you start your holiday wish list by sharing projects featuring our favorite Stampin’ Up! papers, stamps, tools and accessories. Get your wish list ready as you move along through the blog hop.

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from Jackie Diediker at Stampin’ Jackie on the Pals Hop. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the projects.

thinking of you card c

This card uses some of my very favorite tools from Stampin’ Up! I’ll post the things I think everyone should have on their wish list (including the ones used on this card) at the bottom of this post.

The 2014-2016 In Colors are just magnificent used alone or together. I recommend the Modern Label for your first punch – it’s definitely the one I use most. For your first stamp set, I recommend Teeny Tiny Wishes. It includes 24 greetings for just about any occasion. If you choose the clear mount set, you only need one acrylic block, the G block. The Word Window Punch fits all the greetings and fits atop the Modern Label beautifully. Perfect Polka Dots is wonderful for your first embossing folder – it can be used for a zillion different card styles and themes. And once you have a Big Shot, you’ll be able to emboss and cut with lots of different folders and dies. These items would make a terrific starter kit for anyone beginning to make cards – of course, every card maker needs them!

I raised two of the color panels and the greeting with Stampin’ Dimensionals, a very economical way to add depth and interest to any project.

Silver & Gold…and Baked Brown Sugar

InKing Royalty Blog Hop

Welcome to the November InKing Royalty Blog Hop.  We’re excited to share projects that showcase fun gift wrap and packaging ideas for the holidays.

You may have started the Blog Hop here or may have hopped over from Angie Coleman at Coastal Stamping.  After you read my post, I  hope you’ll hop over to the next.  If you get off track at any point during the blog hop, there’s a complete list of participants at the end of this post.

Funny story. I was on my way to the Stampin’ Up! convention in July. I bought some food on the plane (I’m being very liberal with the word food here – it was inedible) but it came in a cafe bag with the roll down top. I thought, these would make such great gift bags, and they’d be so easy to decorate. I’m gonna find some for Christmas gifts this year. Skip to the next day at convention when we got our Holiday Catalogs, and what did I find on page 10? Petite Cafe Gift Bags! I couldn’t believe it.

I have loved the old animated TV show, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer since I was a child. Silver and Gold sung by Burl Ives was one of my favorites songs from that show. Why do I mention this? Because I’m combining the Petite Cafe Bag with Silver and Gold!

silver gold petite cafe bag

I’m afraid my lighting just isn’t right to capture how pretty this is. But trust me, in person the silver and gold really show. I tried to get some shots that showed the shininess, but the silver and gold look sort of blue and green. I hope you can at least get an idea of what it really looks like.

silver gold petite cafe bag 2      silver gold petite cafe bag 3

The tags – I stamped one in silver, one in gold, and one in baked brown sugar to match the bag. I tied them onto the silver ribbon with linen thread. I like the look of the shiny metallics against the matte brown.
