Open House

On January 3, I hosted an Open House to showcase the new Occasions and Sale-a-bration items. About 20 people came and we had a blast. Everyone received a packet of catalogs along with a list of the new bundles, a Gum Balls reward form, a class schedule, a note about the BOGO sale coming up on January 24, and some other goodies.

Attendees could make a free card (see below,) sign up for classes and Stamp Club, see and touch the new products, have a snack, place an order, and laugh and have a good time. There was a prize drawing every hour for new products.

My team member, Judy Newsome, at far left, ran the Make & Take. Here she is with Geleta and Cindy.

Here you can barely see Brian King at far left, who stopped by to help, with Tamara, Jessica, Judy, Geleta, Cindy, and Tamara II.

My team member, Linda Krueger, on the left, helped me plan and set up the open house, and she helped customers at the event. Here she is with Rochelle, who is proudly showing off her Make & Take card – the first card she had ever made! 2016-01-03 13.00.41 There were displays of many of the new products with samples of cards and other projects made with them. Here are a few of them.

A fellow demonstrator, Robbye Hamilton, came by to offer her support, and it just happened to be her birthday. I didn’t know that ahead of time, so we had to make do. Here she is with a chocolate petit four “birthday cake” as Brian looks on.

Here is the Make & Take card from that day:

open house m&t aWe started with a Whisper White card base. We stamped the flower from the new Birthday Blooms stamp set in Blushing Bride directly onto the card base.

Then we glued on a strip of Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper.

Birthday Bouquet DSP b Birthday Bouquet DSP rolls

We stamped the sentiment in Rose Red onto Whisper White CS, then punched it out with the Large Oval Punch. We punched a piece of Blushing Bride card stock with the Scallop Oval Punch and glued the sentiment onto it. Then we attached it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The last touch was to place three Mint Macaron dots from the It’s My Party Enamel Dots. They are self-adhesive, and they really add a little somethin’ somethin’ to your projects. Here’s what we used. Click on the images to get your own!

Cup of Cocoa Cheer

hot cocoa bag b

Who doesn’t love a cup of hot cocoa when the weather’s cold? Today’s project is a quick gift idea for anyone who needs warming up. It was also one of our December Stamp Club projects.

We began by randomly stamping the cups from the Cup of Cheer stamp set in Crumb Cake on a Kraft Tag a Bag Gift Bag. We then stamped the snowflakes from the Project Life Hello December 2015 stamp set in Real Red between the cups. This is one of my favorite snowflake stamps. It’s so delicate.

We stamped the same cup image in Chocolate Chip and the same snowflakes in Real Red on a 2″ strip of Very Vanilla card stock. Then we used the Banner Trip Punch to notch the end. We cut a 1″ strip of Chocolate Chip card stock and notched the end of it as well. We glued the two banners together, overlapping.

After putting a packet of hot cocoa mix inside the bag, we folded over the top, tucked in the tops of the banners, and stapled it shut. You can also adhere the banners to the bag, if you’d like to have more than just the staple holding them on.

We tied a length of Real Red 1/8″ Striped Ribbon around the bag and tied on a candy cane. I found these hot cocoa flavored candy canes at Target.

holly mini bag b

I loooooove the Mini Treat Bag Framelits Dies. These little bags are so versatile. You can put so many different things in them: cards, cookies, candies, small toys and gifts,… And since you can use any Designer Series Paper, they are perfect for any occasion.

This was one of the Make & Takes at our December Stamp Club meeting.

holly mini bag a

We started by using the Mini Treat Bag Framelits to cut the bag from Merry Moments DSP and assembling it with glue. We cut the bow from Real Red card stock using the bow die included in the set.

Mini Treat Bag Framelits Dies

We used Stampin’ Write Markers in Real Red, Crumb Cake, and Mossy Meadow to color the stamp from the Cup of Cheer stamp set. We huffed to reactivate the ink, then stamped on Whisper White card stock. We cut it with the 2-1/2″ Circle Punch and adhered it to the bag.

Cup of Cheer stamp set

We cut two leaves with the Leaflets Framelits Dies, then used the 1″ Circle Punch to cut around the edges so they would look like holly leaves. We drew veins on the leaves with the Mossy Meadow marker.

Fireplace Easel Card

fireplace easel card club 9-15 h

This is the third project we made at the September Stamp Club gathering. I CASEd this card from Sarah Poulton, a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator in the UK. It’s a classic easel card, but with a little something extra: there’s a fire in the fireplace.

The sentiment is from the Cozy Christmas stamp set.Cozy Christmas stamp set

The rest of the images are from the Festive Fireplace stamp set, which is available in a Bundle (save 15%!!!) with the Festive Fireside Framelits Dies.

Festive Fireside stamp set

I usually make the standard 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ size card, but this card is 4-1/2″ x 6″ to better accommodate all the different elements. Cut the Cherry Cobbler card base to 4-1/2″ x 12″, and score along the long side at 3″ and 6″. You can create a custom size envelope with the Envelope Punch Board and Neutrals Envelope Paper.

Stamp the brick fireplace surround on Watercolor Paper, color with a Blender Pen and Cajun Craze ink, and cut out with scissors. Cut off the hearth and flip it around – you will use it upside down from the way it looks in the above picture. Lay it on the Crumb Cake layer, trace around the inside, and cut the hole in the Crumb Cake. Now do the same on the bottom half of the front of the Cherry Cobbler card base. Be sure 1) the holes line up, and 2) the holes do not extend up past the fold. We had to cut a little off the top of the fireplace to make sure the inside didn’t extend above the fold in the card base.

Stamp the logs and fire on Vellum Card Stock with Black Staz-on ink (or with Archival Basic Black ink, then set with your Heat Tool.) Color the image with Stampin’ Write Markers. Allow this to dry, or set the ink with the Heat Tool. Be careful just to dry the ink and don’t get the vellum too hot or it can buckle. I hold it at an angle so the light reflects, so I can tell then it’s no longer shiny/wet.

Adhere the vellum to the back of the Crumb Cake layer, with the fire showing in the cut out. Then Adhere the bottom part of this layer to the card base.

For the garland, stamp and cut two extra wreaths, then cut them in half, so you have four pieces. Glue to the top of the Crumb Cake layer, and trim any excess with Craft Scissors or Paper Snips.

Here’s a close up of the fireplace with the card closed. You can barely see the sentiment peeking through the vellum.

fireplace easel card club 9-15 e

Stamp the sentiment in Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive (color the stamp with Stampin’ Write Markers) on Very Vanilla CS, then cut with the Ovals Collections Framelits. Cut a piece of Cherry Cobbler CS with a larger die from the same set. Glue the two pieces together, then attach to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. This provides a stop for the easel.

Now for the piece de resistance. The reason we used vellum inside the fireplace is so we can see the fire. Open the card, tuck the front behind the “rug” to stand it up, and slide a tea light inside.

fireplace easel card club 9-15 d

TIP: We used battery powered tea lights with a flickering amber yellow light, so it would more closely emulate a fire. They’re easy to find – I got these at Amazon.com.

This is the second project from September’s Stamp Club meeting. It’s another very quick and easy card.

A Rich Razzleberry card base is topped with layers, from bottom to top, in Mossy Meadow, Soft Suede, and Into the Woods DSP. A piece of Burlap Ribbon is topped with a piece of Into the Woods Ribbon. Two wood embellishments, from the Expressions Natural Elements and the Into the Woods Elements, are on the very top. I trimmed the ribbons with Craft Scissors – straight on one end, and notched at the other.
